Why it matters
The Gathering began in 2023 after a Night of Worship during our Belize Mission Experience. That night, more than 200 people gathered on a football field to worship together and hear the Gospel. We watched God move in ways we never could have planned, and by the end of the night, more than 17 people had surrendered their lives to Jesus.
But we knew discipleship couldn’t end when our team boarded a plane home.
God had already begun stirring the heart of Pastor Fredrico Lord, a local pastor who had joined us that night. In the weeks that followed, Pastor Lord began traveling to the village to gather with people, open God’s Word, and walk alongside those who were growing in their faith. What began as a weekly gathering became The Gathering.
Today, The Gathering is a church family that worships together, prays for one another, studies God’s Word, and serves their community.

Each week, people from the community come together at The Gathering to worship, pray, hear God’s Word, and spend time with one another. It has become a place where people can consistently gather as a church family and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

The Gathering is led by Pastor Lord, a Belizean pastor who knows the people and the community he serves. His leadership allows discipleship to continue week after week through someone who is there to walk alongside people in their everyday lives.

God’s Word is at the center of The Gathering. Through weekly teaching, people are encouraged to know Scripture, understand what it means for their lives, and continue growing in their faith beyond Sunday evening.

Gathering Disciples gives children a place to learn about Jesus and grow in their faith each week. Led by women from The Gathering, children worship, pray, open God’s Word, and learn what it means to follow Jesus.

The Gathering serves families in the community through a food pantry that helps provide groceries for those in need. It’s a practical way the church can care for its neighbors, build relationships, and show the love of Jesus to the people God has placed right in front of them.

In the late summer of 2024, God began stirring the hearts of four women from The Gathering. Each one felt called to begin a Sunday school for children, especially those who weren't attending church or didn't have access to a Bible at home. None of the women knew the others were feeling the same call. Each simply knew God was asking her to take a step of faith.
As their stories came together, it became clear that God had been working in each of them. After months of prayer and preparation, Gathering Disciples began in October 2024. Since then, these women have faithfully shown up every Sunday to help children know God and learn His Word.
Today, between 12 and 20 children gather each week for worship and Bible teaching. The women have worked through challenges to make sure children can be there, even arranging transportation for those living in remote villages. Through God's provision, the children now have access to Bibles, printed lessons, transportation, and a snack each week.
And what they're learning doesn't stay at The Gathering. Children go home asking questions and telling their families what they've learned about God. They share with friends and classmates. Little by little, the seeds being planted each Sunday are reaching beyond the children in the room.
The Gathering is locally led, but 28:19 Ministries continues to walk alongside the church and support the work God is doing there. From supporting Pastor Lord and Gathering Disciples to helping meet practical needs within the community, our relationship with The Gathering continues throughout the year.
